Our Twin’s First Birthday Party

on March 8, 2013

As the boys’ second birthday is quickly approaching, I thought it’d be fun to share the fun details of the first birthday bash.  They are March babies, and although we aren’t very much Irish, we thought it’d be fun to have their celebration on St. Patrick’s Day.  We rented a tent, sent out an Evite, and anxiously awaited the big day.  I did an Irish theme with a little blue mixed in, and had some rainbow themed apps and deserts to add some fun.  It wasn’t anything fancy, but it was great time and beautiful day.

I bought printables from Etsy (nellie*design - she was awesome), and had the designer customize them to include the boys’ names and the number 1.  They were very cute and easy.  I threw together some hats with fun green garland.

I made rainbow cupcakes.  I used regular cupcake mix, mixed everything up and divided the batter into 6 containers.  I used one quart chinese soup containers because we have a bunch and they gave me enough room to stir without it spilling over.  I made orange, green, yellow, red, blue, purple batters using McCormick’s Assorted food coloring.  It comes with red, yellow, and blue but the box has tips on the ratios for the other colors.  I made the small little icing swirls by cutting a hole in the corner of a ziploc bag.  I didn’t want to cover the whole top because I loved how vibrant the cupcakes were.

For the boys’ mini cakes, I made the same batter but then slowly layered it into a cake pan and gently swirled it to give it a tie dye effect.  I had a small candy bar with some green and rainbow candy.

I printed out a bunch of fun Irish sayings and placed them around the tent outside.  It was a chilly morning so we had to put the tent walls up and they looked boring.

I dressed them in super cute outfits (pants from Nordstrom and Irish onesies from EtsyAntsy Pants)… and enjoyed the day!!
